more geeking out

conanthelibrarian:

Yes please. Baleine Bookmark by Atypyk.

Kind of cutsey, but anything inserted into a crack, crevasse or fold is funny. And functional.

It’s also totally hip with the current nautical trend.

Conan the Librarian: Yardage → conanthelibrarian.tumblr.com

libraryland:

People are lately focused on the fate of libraries & aspects of physical book lending with the introduction of a generation of new electronic reading devices - Kindle, Sony Reader, iPhone, etc.

But we forgot about those who sell books by the yard, for people who need to look like they like books….

Gotta love how easy it can be sometimes to separate the fools from their money. I wonder if they sell any trapdoor bookcases as well.

If I had a coffee table I’d put this on it.

I’m a fan of this as well. It would go alongside my copies of Mannahatta and Bruce Springsteen:Songs

“First Sgt. Edward Welsh: Everything a lie. Everything you hear, everything you see. So much to spew out. They just keep coming, one after another. You’re in a box. A moving box. They want you dead, or in their lie… There’s only one thing a man can do - find something that’s his, and make an island for himself. If I never meet you in this life, let me feel the lack; a glance from your eyes, and my life will be yours.” —The Thin Red Line (1998) - Memorable quotes

The man does have a knack for playing villiany. Also, villiany is a great word.

I think I agree with Kottke, there’s just something about this picture - the angles, the focus - that is wonderful. Why

The Curious Cook - Why Cilantro Tastes Like Soap, for Some - NYTimes.com → nytimes.com

“Helen Leach, an anthropologist at the University of Otago in New Zealand, has traced unflattering remarks about cilantro flavor and the bug etymology — not endorsed by modern dictionaries — back to English garden books and French farming books from around 1600, when medieval dishes had fallen out of fashion. She suggests that cilantro was disparaged as part of a general effort to define the new European table against the flavors of the old.”

So long as it’s not an overwhelming amount, I have no complaints. I get why people don’t like it, but the vocal hatred can sometimes be a bit much. It’s an herb!
